The Executive Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki has been conferred with the Honorary Fellowship Award of the Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) at the 29^th Annual Conference/Annual General Meeting of the Society held in Benin, the Edo State Capital. The award is in recognition of his contributions to promoting good environmental practice and standards in the state.

The Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, His Excellency, Chief Timipre Sylva has charged environmental practitioners and stakeholders in Nigeria to think globally and act locally in addressing all the myriad of environmental issues confronting the nation. The Honourable Minister stated this while delivering a paper at the 29^th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) in Benin Edo State, on the theme: “Narratives of The Nigerian Environmental Needs – A Holistic Approach”

Speaking at the 29^th Annual Conference of Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) in Benin, Edo state, His Excellency, Chief Timipre Sylva noted that Nigeria as a nation faces an array of environmental tests which boils down to the fundamental challenge of making enlightened decisions that will place people and the planet on course for a better future.

The Honourable Minister also noted that Nigeria as a nation is faced with the daunting challenge of curtailing negative environmental impacts, including climate change impacts and therefore advocate for a holistic and pragmatic approach to the environment issues.
